Our First HMD on DW!

It's your regularly-scheduled HMD!

This is a post where you can see how you're doing in the eyes of your fellow roleplayers. This can be how well you're playing your character, as well as playing in general.

1. You can post your character, their journal, and their canon in any way that suits you.

2. Be open minded, no one is above learning to be better, not even the mods.

3. Give some constructive criticism! Do it in journal or anon if you feel more comfortable. Absolutely positively no bashing and being unhelpful. On the other hand, don't take crit as a clue to OMG LEAVE AND NEVAR COME BACK or reason it all away as character development without listening to it. Improving is a good thing!

4. It's up to you to let people know what you think. This is your chance to tell people what you think of how they're playing, Even if you don't know the series, you can tell a player how you view the character based on how you've played them and they can compare it to canon. This can be in the form of, "Post moaaaar~" or "We never finish plots! :<" or even "You do a good job at following HP canon!"

5. This is NOT MANDATORY. It is however, HIGHLY encouraged for everyone to participate in. Sometimes it's helpful to get input from people who have seen you in action, so try not to be afraid of it. You might hear good things as well!

6. You guys are full of love, feel free to say that you like someone's character. Just do it constructively, give reasons why you like the character, no just "I love your Muse and you're the best one ever!" Everyone has room for improvement.

7. Please don't spam. We love you, but there are plenty of other places for that!

8. There is a mod hmd for crit regarding us specifically and a general game hmd for anything from "Too many of you are whores and you don't use enough British slang" to "We want more crack events '^' ". So this is for general stuff you'd like to see in the game from fellow players (without pointing fingers) as well as how you'd like to see the game improve how it's run.

I have not seen Megamind (still!) and I have not seen Disney's Peter Pan in quite some time, let that be said.

jkasdfljs I love your Rapunzel. She's sweet and spunky and basically a yes good Disney princess. I guess, um, that's also part of a potential problem that you sometimes skirt (but never actually fall into): losing sight of the difference between Rapunzel and all the other princesses. I haven't seen much of the *ties people up with her hair and hits them with frying pans* *stands up to big burly medieval bikers and then sings about her dreams* Rapunzel in a while, but I would like to! And I know that you can do it, because you're a wonderful Rapunzel and I love playing with you.
(Take all of my concrit with a grain of salt - I was inactive throughout November and December)
Billy/Rapunzel is my crack OTP, I'll have you know. He needs a Disney princess to keep him on the straight and narrow.

Melvin and Billy need to get their broship on more often.

I really love your Naveen! He's charming and silly and doesn't get it, which of course makes him the perfect Gryffinderp.

And I haven't seen too much of your Wendy, but going by her thread with Billy I really think you've got a handle on her characterization.

But obviously I play with Rapunzel the most out of your bbs.

I have only interacted with Rapunzel, but I think you really have her down, true to the movie. Very sweet and enthusiastic and just a tiny bit clueless, but not in a super dumb way. She's a character who could easily become too saccharine and boring, but I'm having an awesome time with her, so!

I love your Iroh! I think he's just the right amount of grandfatherly and caring, and very true to canon. I do sort of wish that you weren't both Galen and Iroh, so that I could have seen Iroh's "EXCUSE YOU" all over Galen's bullshit. Feferi is proud to be in his house! (assuming he's still the HoH for Hufflepuff)

I also love your Tavros, because he's really nervous and shy, but you do a really good job with not making his quirk annoying, like I've seen some RPers do. You do a good job at making him feel like a shy little 13-year-old kid, and I just want to moosh him whenever I see you posting with him.
(I just want to say, I also really loved your Tavros jumping in on Karkat in Pleakley's Dressing Room post. I felt like he was very much himself, because part of Tavros' character is that even though he's shy, he does try to be brave and speak up sometimes, and I felt like confronting Karkat in that journal was a perfect example of that.)

gush over talk about the other two.

AJ: From what I've seen (her conversation with Feferi, and some conversations she had with Rapunzel /what no I don't stalk Rapunzel like a proper laundry buddy), you play her as the perfect sort of apple-pie sweetness. She can be sugary, because she's a pony and she will love and tolerate the shit out of you, but she's also got that little kick to her that makes her AJ and makes her awesome. You've got her very down to earth, which is an important part of her character.

Karkat: Ahem. *cracks knuckles and settles in* Let me tell you about Homestuck Karkat. I've pretty much been creepily stalking your Karkat ever since you joined (I hope that's not weird) because you're just so. Damn. Good.
Your Karkat is an angry, bitter little cuss who thinks that the world hates him and may or may not be right at times. You jerk all the maternal feelings right out of me and just make me want to hug the shit out of the cranky little turd and squeeze him until feelings come out.
But more than that, you've already made it readily apparent that his walls are actually really fragile. If you douse yourself in water and run through the wall of fuckfire that surrounds him, there's a marshmallowy center that, sure, is a little brown but is mostly just gooey and sticky.
Wow that metaphor got away from me. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING. You're showing all of the different sides to Karkat even though you haven't even been with us that long, and you're showing how he relates to different characters and different types of characters, and you're doing it all fantastically. His interactions with Gamzee are absolutely perfect - I actually literally started crying reading the one you linked on Plurk on the ice skating thread. I love every single thread that spawned from his shipping post, because he's defensive and cranky and "NO FUCK YOU I DIDN'T MEAN TO DO THAT" which is perfectly 100% Karkat. I can't wait to see where you take him from here, and I'm super excited to have a character who can get her fins on him so that I don't have to just continue creepily watching from the shadows!
Tl;dr: I LOVE KARKAT. I LOVE YOU. I LOVE YOUR KARKAT.

Hmmm. I am not really sure how to phrase this! And I am not very sure which category it falls under either. So if I don't make sense, I apologize so much.

Sometimes Puck really surprises me with some of his responses to people; sometimes, when I expect him to act like an ass, he's actually pretty nice to someone. And then when I expect him to be nice to someone, he is... kind of an ass.

I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but sometimes it makes me... nervous to tag him, I guess? Because I honestly don't know what I'm going to get. It's been a little jarring sometimes to get asshole!Puck when expecting a more civil Puck.

I hope this doesn't come across as overly complain-y or whiny/annoying; because when it comes to his personality, you're very good at it, and he's very, very Puck. But sometimes I think he alternates between extremes, I guess...?

Okay, I'm not doing this because we have so much CR.

I'm doing this because I was in a production of Doctor Horrible.

So yeah, I've thought a lot about the characters -- Well, mostly Moist because that was my role, and Billy because he's interesting and y'know, the lead. ANYWAY. I think you do a really good job with Billy, because he still feels like Doctor Horrible, but different enough that he's believably younger and had less life experiences. You've got the psychology of canon with the differences you need for the age jump.

I can tell there are times you want to go further with his experimentation with technology and/or magic, but I think you've done a good job of reigning it in so far as needed. Just make sure you keep up with that!

I feel like I remember once you saying you were nervous about delving into Cassie's issues, or some of them, too much because you weren't sure you would handle them right or... Something I don't remember MAYBE I DREAMT IT.

I think you should do what you're comfortable with, of course, but if you at all want to, I encourage you to go for it! You are a very tactful person, and so I'm sure you'd do your research and be tasteful with it.

TL;DR: Don't be afraid to get deep and dark if it's something you are comfortable doing!

Ahhhhh that last post of Eridan's on Feferi's entry did bad things to my heart. Bad, horrible, twisty knotty thorny things. It's perfectly Eridan, a little bit rambly because he's so nervous the poor thing and he's got all these expectations about how this is going to go and Feferi is oblivious to them and wweh wweh oh my god. We haven't done much with them yet, but I can't wait to shatter his poor little heart and then see what happens from there.

Also, I want Billy to interact more with Eridan, because I want to see how that goes as well.

I've been getting out of my comfort zone a bit in some areas, so any crit you can give would be muchly appreciated.

Okay um um um. This is more of a nitpick I think, as opposed to actual crit. Because let me first say that I looooove Kid and he is wonderful and you do him excellent justice!

But one thing I have not seen from him, and perhaps I have just not paid enough attention, as I've only been into SE a few months now- and it could also be a character development thing you've done that I just don't know about, etc etc. But I have not seen any crippling symmetry crisis' from him; the kind that in canon completely and totally distract him from any and all things around him. And they were super hilarious in canon, and tended to show just how horrible his form of OCD could be.

But honestly? Other than the one minor thing, I absolutely adore him and you're playing him amazingly! One of my favorite things is how he tends to freak out for several comments at a time, those are always just so fun to read.

Gamzee's a hard character to play in environments with rules and such things, but I think that you've done a very good job with making him still be Gamzee, but also not in such a way that he's going to get arrested. So that's a good thing!
(Also ffffff your log with Karkat at the ice skating. It was everything that I absolutely adore about the two of them together. Everything is perfect and nothing hurts aaahhhh)

One of the things that makes me love Jake so much is his vocabulary, and how even though he's a modern 15-year-old he talks like he just stepped out of the 20s. That's one of the major things that sets him apart from John, and I think you really nail it!
I love Jake and I love you and I'm so happy we're still continuing that thread. XD
