Mod Post on Recent Changes
Hello players, guess who? If you guessed your lovely/strapping mods, you’d be correct.
Let’s get down to business. In light of recent concerns, we’ve decided to add a bit of guidance in terms of schooling and have added revisions to nearly all of our pages. First things first, we’ve heard that there seem to be issues with student/teacher relations and most of the House Points are currently in the negatives. To this end, we’ve done quite a few things. We've divided things up to make them easier to digest, but we expect everyone to know these changes.
Teacher Stuff:
→ The points page now includes a guideline on how many points to take (or add) for several offenses (or achievements) so you can get an idea of what’s standard. Right now we’ve noticed a lot of people don’t actually comment to the points page when they detract/add points, so they never go into effect! Next, we notice that in a few occasions, two or more people have detracted points for the same offense. Always try to CHECK TO AVOID THIS, because we don’t always keep track.
→ Also on the Points page is a link to some suggestions for Detentions! They range from the mundane to the extreme, so we hope that your teacher characters can draw from these ideas if you can't think of anything. Along this same vein, we have added a question to the permissions that we would like student characters to add when they get the chance. This is to help teacher-muns in case you feel like your character really needs some disciplining.
→ If you haven't added a blank thread to the homework post make sure to do so! A good way to allow students to gain back points is to have homework. We've also consolidated the Class list so if you want to make a sign up sheet for your class that you have on the character's journal, you can link it there.
Student Stuff:
→ In regards to Student actions, teens will be teens! Which means that they're going to mess up and be silly and be naughty or nice and get lots of detention. We understand and definitely encourage that – to a point. Remember, the whole fun in Sorting Hat is that you do the crazy thing of taking a character from their world and molding them into a student in the Harry Potter world. That means that at the end of the day, HP canon trumps yours.
While they might do some things in canon, they turn unrealistic when you bring them to Hogwarts. A decent portion of the HP!Canon Guide has been updated to reflect this. We doubt it will get to this point, but if the moderators speak to you seriously about this, it's because your character is getting into unplayable territory.
→ This can mostly be circumvented with the use of the Plot Request post! If you ever feel like you're unsure about whether the plot you want to do is allowed, just ask us on that post. This can be big stuff, but it can also be used for sneaking out or parties and things. The advantage is, if you do some crazy plot involving a lot of zany hijinks and trouble and you don't ask us, we're kind of stuck with what you've given us, and characters just have to deal with it. And chances are, we're not going to like it. No, sir. :| But if you ask in advance, we can tweak minor things and know it's coming and plan accordingly around our other events. It's really better for everyone involved if you do this.
→ Here at Sorting Hat, we have no beef with teen sexy times so long as they aren't infants. It is the official position of the mod team that consenting teenagers are allowed to do as they please. However, in light of recent issues regarding concerns about this, we're doing the following. On the logs community, we've added a nsfw tag for entries that might be scandalous or otherwise objectionable, and for the main community, we expect things to have warnings on the entry or threads themselves and for people to use cuts and filters. It is entirely up to you guys to maintain this, and we've updated the rules page in light of this.
Everything Else:
→ That being said, a reminder! USE THE TAGS. It's gotten pretty bad, and tagging your entries and the entries/logs you comment to is how people can find your threads, and it also makes it a lot easier for you to find tags you haven't gotten back to!
→ We've decided to add 5 points to the officers for every time a club meets in an effort to promote clubs/extracurriculars. Anyone who attends also gets 1 point towards their house. Club presidents/advisors should comment to the house points page if they want to claim these points!
We hope everyone read this big long thing and COMMENTS, but most importantly we hope everyone understands our position on these things. If you have a serious complaint about something, we recommend you post it to the issues post and let us know, but otherwise, this is our final word on this stuff.

Kabby here. I JUST LIKE SHOWING OFF NEW ICONS. I ADMIT IT.
Re: Kabby here. I JUST LIKE SHOWING OFF NEW ICONS. I ADMIT IT.
As for the blood prejudice, it's kind of a personal thing whether people want to do that or not, but it's always good to consider whether it'd be realistic for your character or not.

Mmmm, gotcha!
Van-Mun on a different account
Re: Van-Mun on a different account

My only thing is that a lot of stuff on Weres and Vamps is pretty vague on all of the HP info sites. I was wondering if maybe all of the muns of these kinds of characters could get together with the mods and work out what kind of powers they have/things they can or can't do that way it can be posted publicly for everyone to know?
I figured it could probably get confusing since everyone has their own opinions on the subject and it would be hard on newer players coming in with one of these types of characters to not have guidelines. There's a lot of conflicting info out there on both of them and it varies depending on culture too so it would be nice to have a game guideline to follow! ^_^

I am glad the whole tag thing was touched on, because I didn't think I had a tag.
FOR PEOPLE MISSING TAGS
Mordrid, still on the wrong account
Vashti Middens' tag is missing on both comms. A log thread and a journal thread.
