How's my driving?

This is a post where you can see how you're doing in the eyes of your fellow roleplayers. This can be how well you're playing your character, as well as playing in general.

1. You can post your character, their journal, and their canon in any way that suits you.

2. Be open minded, no one is above learning to be better, not even the mods.

3. Give some constructive criticism! Do it in journal or anon if you feel more comfortable. Absolutely positively no bashing and being unhelpful. On the other hand, don't take crit as a clue to OMG LEAVE AND NEVAR COME BACK or reason it all away as character development without listening to it. Improving is a good thing!

4. It's up to you to let people know what you think. This is your chance to tell people what you think of how they're playing, Even if you don't know the series, you can tell a player how you view the character based on how you've played them and they can compare it to canon. This can be in the form of, "Post moaaaar~" or "We never finish plots! :<" or even "You do a good job at following HP canon!"

5. This is NOT MANDATORY. It is however, HIGHLY encouraged for everyone to participate in. Sometimes it's helpful to get input from people who have seen you in action, so try not to be afraid of it. You might hear good things as well!

6. You guys are full of love, feel free to say that you like someone's character. Just do it constructively, give reasons why you like the character, no just "I love your Muse and you're the best one ever!" Everyone has room for improvement.

7. Please don't spam. We love you, but there are plenty of other places for that!

8. There is a mod hmd for crit regarding us specifically and a general game hmd for anything from "Too many of you are whores and you don't use enough British slang" to "We want more crack events '^'". So this is for general stuff you'd like to see in the game from fellow players (without pointing fingers) as well as how you'd like to see the game improve how its run.

I think you -- and the rest of the OC cast -- have done a wonderful job of setting a standard for OCs in the game. Marina is clearly well thought-out!

But, I'm really glad to know I've gotten better at speed! I think I just needed to get better at juggling my threads instead of focusing on one thing, so that's been what I've tried to do.

I've just started something with Bro, and really. I know just from the small little homework thread that I want more snarking between Bro and Tony.

Oh man me too! And I'm glad you're looking forward to it, because I think their CR is going to be awesome.

I think the best think about teacher CR for Tony is it's going to give me the chance to let him toe the line against them. Canon wise he has little to no respect for authority. And I reckon that comes from him knowing he's more intelligent than most everyone. Also because of the money and contracts he has.

So as Tony's still a kid he still has respect for teachers but is getting to the age where he needs to test them. So getting CR with Bro is going to be fun because he's a more flexible net than the others. If you know what I mean????

Also, the snark between them will be amazing.

I like Marina a lot! You do a great job with her. But I feel like maybe there can be more gradation in terms of her anger? As in, getting furious at Maxim hitting on her is perfectly reasonable but she's so angry at everything at a baseline that sometimes it comes off as a bit much? But I love your strong handle on the character, it's very evident that you know everything about who she is.

Aaaa, thank you! It's good to hear about Marina like that; I've never been in a situation to get crit for her. So it's really, really great to hear that!

And also, you're totally right. I don't want her to come off as too much like that. I think I realized this to an extent, so when I went out tagging other people I tried to make her more... sarcastic? As opposed to outright angry. But hearing that at least lets me know that it's something to work on, so it's very much appreciated!

I really like what Greg and Marina have! It's negative CR, but it's good for Greg because at this point he's still young and he's yet to totally develop that capacity to look past people's flaws and see the good in them. I mean, Marina has her issues, but Greg should kinda know better since we've pre-established the fact that they grew up in the same neighbourhood. But because he's still a young, very sure of his morality views, kinda guy at this point, it's good for him to bounce off her more just so that he can develop more into the DI he becomes in the future: the guy willing to look past Sherlock's drug habits and his disrespect for rules and the police force as well as his near emotionless (and some would say inhumane) views on victims and crimes, to see the good guy inside, despite what others may say. So yes, I like what Marina and Greg have got very much and I'd like to see where it will go to in the future!

Tavros is very adorable but I haven't really threaded with him much so I can't really say anything. However, he seems like a real sweet-heart. I'm also canon blind to Homestuck, so I don't really know how IC Tavros and Bro are.

Bro's struggle to be a dad is really very touching. You can see him just trying so hard that it hurts, but he doesn't give up because he loves his boys so much and he won't ever give up either, because that's what makes him Bro Strider. However, I do think that as a professor, especially of languages, Bro should be more careful about what he says. I'm guessing that in canon he really is quite open about swearing and sexual stuff, but now that he's a teacher I think he should tone it down? Teachers are meant to set examples and like what Marina brought up it's not fair for the other teachers to round up on her because of language when Bro is still talking about orgasms and throwing the f-word around.

Hey! I just wanted to say thank you very much for all of that. It really makes me happy that you'd take the time to write it all. I really love Marina and Greg's CR too and I think it has a lot of potential to grow into something positive one day if they just... keep at it.

And thank you! Tavros is definitely a cutie in Homestuck, so I'm glad you think that!

Aaaas for Bro, I appreciate you bringing that up! What I'm about to say isn't in any way meant to blow you off, I just feel like an explanation is in order for why he is the way he is.

In canon, he's definitely a very inappropriate person. In Sortinghat AU, he's still very much an inappropriate person. The problem with him is he's not really had much interaction with people, let alone kids other than Dave, for the last 14+ years of his life. He only recently got hired in March of last year, so suddenly coming to school was kind of just... A culture shock sort of experience? Suddenly everything he's used to is inappropriate. I've been making his improving an IC thing, because he's realized a lot of what he does is bad and he's working to get better. So that part is a gradual process and one I'm working towards ICly.

There are some things that he won't realize needs to be changed on their own, though. Cussing and making inappropriate innuendo is pretty much second nature to him, so he really doesn't... think about it? So that's something someone is going to have to tell him ICly before he'll work on improving. Mainly the cussing, because he's definitely cut back on a lot of the sexual nature of his words.

THAT SAID, I'm working on a way for him to be told about this, so he will improve in that regard, it'll just take a little time. It's not something I want to just have happen randomly, so it'll be an IC change and one that'll start hopefully in the near future.

Thank you very much for everything you said! It really makes me happy to know that the fact he loves them is coming off and that he is trying, because that's exactly what I'm trying to do with him. It's just awesome to know that it's working. <3

I do understand that Bro lived in that manner for so long; however I think that IC-ly as well, Dumbledore would have second thoughts on hiring someone if their personality wasn't suited to that of a teacher. Bro's got his heart in the right place and he's the skills, there's no doubt about it, but as I've mentioned before teachers really influence their students especially the younger ones. I feel that Dumbledore would speak up especially if Bro is not making an effort to hide his swearing over the journals.

Compared to when he first got here, there has been of course heaps of improvement! But I feel that given his appointment as an actual Professor and the standards Dumbledore has, Bro should at least be more aware of how things stand with his job. It would just seem strange for Dumbledore to ignore Bro's language. I know in canon Dumbledore lets Snape get away with bullying students, but Dumbledore did address these issues with Snape at least once. Snape was also somewhat a special case.

Okay, I'm going to be honest here and I don't mean it rudely at all or anything. I just kind of feel like... I don't know what to say to this? The way you phrase it kind of just makes me feel like you think Bro shouldn't have been hired and that's a little... offputting. You do bring up a valid point that yes, this should have been addressed sooner. But the fact is it hasn't and I'm working on addressing it, so I'm not... really sure what to say. This isn't something I just feel like implementing, because it's such an ingrained part of Bro that just having him stop feels like it would be OOC. Which is why I'm making it an IC thing.

I'm also a little unsure what you mean about the Snape comparison, because I don't feel like Bro's bullied anyone lately? So... that part confuses me, since I feel like he's leaps and bounds better than he used to be in that regard and hasn't bullied anyone. So... I don't know how to take the Snape comparison.

I'm sorry if I sound defensive, I guess I just feel a little pinned.

People have once mentioned that Dumbledore's lack of intervention against Snape's bullying is proof for him not being very involved with the teacher's behaviour. I didn't mean to say that Bro's bullying anyone at all! I just meant to say that if Dumbledore felt a member of the staff was acting inappropriately, he would speak up at least once.

It's not that I haven't seen him tone it down at all; I know he's extended olive branches and apologized for things he got called out on. I guess I just feel odd though given that in Hogwarts canon the teachers, as harsh and snide and downright mean they could be, never swore at their students as far as I can remember. But if it is that big a part of Bro's personality and canon, then I understand the difficulty and why you made it IC for him as a teacher to still retain some aspect of that part of his personality, and to slowly tone that down. I'm coming from a canon blind POV here, so my judgement is probably wrong and I do apologize if I caused you grief or made you feel pinned, which was definitely nowhere near what I meant to do! I'm glad that you're looking or already taking steps to further tone down Bro's language as well.

Again, I do deeply apologize for it.

I definitely see where you're coming from. It's going to change, hopefully sooner rather than later. I know a character who's going to bring it up ICly, so after that he's gonna work on it.

This is all appreciated though, really. I'm glad you were able to speak your mind and if I came off as unapproachable because of my other response, I apologize. I didn't mean to, I think I'm just very tired today and taking things in ways I shouldn't. I read too much into what you said, so if anything I said was defensive or abrasive, please forgive me.

Bro. Bro. I think he's wonderful, I really do, you've managed to find just the right kind of balance with him and it's lovely to see how he's been developing even over the short time I've been here. Seeing him struggle to come to grips with being a parent while not really knowing what to do with the two Strider kids is very touching. The way he's so obviously trying to be strong for his boys while everything is slowly getting on top of him makes him very real to me and it's amazing to see. I really love the CR he has going with Arthur right now, too. :3

Marina, I am very much looking forward to getting more contact with as we've discussed and I really hope it works out. I've already seen even in the short interaction they've had that she brings out Arthur's witty snark and I can't tell you how much I love getting the opportunity to write him that way.

I've not seen anything of Tavros in relation to Arthur, but from what I've seen of him interacting with other people he's very genuine and sweet and you have a very good grasp on his voice.

On the whole, you know that I think your writing is beautiful and you have a way of expressing things, especially in Bro's train of thought during emotional situations, which just makes me think why can I not feels like that. I look forward to playing with you much more in the future <3
